1.Nasi Lemak
Nasi lemak is a very famous dish not only in Malaysia but also in Indonesia and Brunei. Nasi lemak is commonly served for breakfast in Malaysian tradition. The rice is cooked with coconut milk and pandan leave so that it will smell good and taste fairly creamy. A complete nasi lemak will be served with Sambal tumis, anchovies, roasted peanuts, and a hard-boiled egg. Besides that, you can always add squid, prawn, beef, and fried chicken to nasi lemak as an extra dish to make the nasi lemak extra tasty. Nasi lemak can be found all over Malaysia. Plus, almost everyone knows how to make their own nasi lemak with their own styles.
2. Nasi Kerabu
Nasi Kerabu is not as famous as nasi lemak but it’s still famous in the east coast of Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur. Nasi Kerabu is usually served for breakfast and dinner for local people. Nasi Kerabu is known for its blue-colored rice and salad. The rice is cooked with turmeric and petals of Clitoria Ternatea flower to give the good smell and the blue color to the rice. Nasi Kerabu is commonly served with budu, sambal, fried coconut, salad, solok, keropok, and the most important condiment is the salted egg to give it a little bit of a salty kick. Nasi Kerabu is also very easy to find around Kuala Lumpur.
3.Nasi Dagang
Nasi Dagang is less common compared to nasi lemak and Nasi Kerabu. It is because not all people can prepare Nasi Dagang perfectly. It needs to be prepared with love and patience so that it can be served perfectly. The process of the preparation of Nasi Dagang is very complicated even if you follow the recipe and the process perfectly. The white rice is steamed with coconut milk to add a creamy taste to the rice and served with chicken or fish curry gravy along with some vegetable pickles and sambal. This Nasi Dagang is very popular in the State of Terengganu which is located on the east coast of Malaysia.
4. Kuih Keria
Kuih Keria is one of the signature desserts and snacks for Malaysians. It is very popular in the historical state of Melaka but you can also find it in the regular night market in Kuala Lumpur and all over Malaysia. It is very easy to prepare as long as you follow the recipe, but nowadays it is very difficult to find the original Kuih Keria’s recipe. Basically, Kuih Keria is a mashed boiled sweet potato and mixed with gula Melaka, then they will deep fried it. The taste of Kuih Keria is sweet and commonly served with sugarless coffee or tea during breakfast or for evening drinks.
5. Ais Batu Campur
On a hot and sunny day, all of us will seek refreshing drinks or something cold to make you feel comfortable. So the Malaysian invented the best dessert for you that can make you ‘meleleh’ when you see it on a hot sunny day, called Ais Batu Campur and also known as ABC. Basically, it is just a normal shaved ice but what makes it so special is that it is served with roasted red beans, sweet corn, fruit jelly, lychee, grass jelly, and beans. After all the ingredients have been put together, they will pour evaporated milk, condensed milk, and syrup on the ABC. ABC is usually served around the afternoon until evening, usually on a hot and sunny day. This dessert is very popular all over Malaysia.
