Every country has a unique tradition or culture that exclusively only people that born in there can relate to, same goes to Malaysia! Here’s a short list of things that only a Malaysian can relate!
1) You can’t speak normally without using ‘lah’
The word ‘’Lah’’ is used to affirm a statement. For example, when someone asks ‘’can I use that?’’ A true Malaysian will simply answer the question with “can lah’’ it’s like ‘’why not’’ in Malaysian’s version.
2) You Drink Milo ALMOST EVERYDAY
Let’s be honest that most of Malaysians drink Milo every day, at every time and anywhere especially as a start of the day. Milo has successfully infiltrated our food culture here in Malaysia. We don’t only drink Milo, sometimes we ate it. Milo isn’t just a household beverage anymore you can now find Milo in a bowl of Malaysian favorite instant noodle, Maggi. The Milo addiction that every Malaysian can relate!
3) You Shed tears when watching PETRONAS ad
You are 100% a Malaysian when there’s a new advertisement by PETRONAS in every festival and you know you are going to cry out loud. Simply said there’s nothing more miserable than clicking on a random YouTube videos and you start seeing the PETRONAS ad, alone … and away from your parents.

4) You know how to play the recorder
Learning to play the recorder in music class isn’t solely a Malaysian thing but this is the thing that mostly kids in Malaysia can relate. Although we still have no idea why we have to spend one hour learning to play the song ‘’burung kakak tua’’ on a recorder, but it was a pleasant moment since we don’t have to spend more time in a math class…
5) You Spend too much time at Mamak
There’s actually no such thing as ‘’too much time at mamak’’ but sometimes it can be really too much. Mamak is a restaurant that serves everything you need and it is the best place to catch up with friends over a cheap meal, make plans or even planning a next move in your business! The best mamak is the one that provides you a huge screen screening the latest football match!
Joke aside; our multiracial belief and multicultural society are a special privilege that we sometimes forget. We all share so many unique things that we can use in breaking unnecessary walls between everyone in this multiracial country. While some of them may seem hilarious, it can’t be denied that it is simply just who we are and we should truly embrace and be proud of it!
