Did your flight just get delayed? It certainly is not the best news to hear, but there are times when it’s just unavoidable. There’s only so much scrolling down and refreshing your social media can do to kill your boredom. Instead of simply staring off into space, why not try these things?
- Catch up on your readings
There must be that one book or article you’ve been putting off for a while, so what better time to read it than now? Reading is even more easily accessible these days since you can do it on your smartphone or Kindle. If you still prefer the traditional way and don’t have a book with you, airports always have a bookstore.
- Let your creative juices flow
If you enjoy writing or drawing, there’s no better time to do it than now. The airport is the best place to get inspired with all the people walking past and planes flying in and out. Even if it’s just random doodles or scribbles, once you start putting your ideas to paper, you might be surprised how fast time flies!
- Clean your bag and wallet
Some of us have a habit of accumulating junk in our bag, most of which are receipts, flyers and expired coupons and vouchers. Use this free time to declutter your bag! While you’re not that likely to get much extra space, at least it’ll be easier to search for things and your purse will be able to breathe again.
- Catch up with the world news
What’s today’s headline? Which team won yesterday? Don’t get left behind even if you’re on a holiday! Pick up a newspaper (there should be some free ones available, at least at a cafe) or open a news portal and catch up with what’s happening around the world. It might actually be helpful to know the recent events, especially the ones related to the country you’re travelling to.
- Watch a movie
If you can get connected to the airport wifi, it’s not a bad idea to catch a movie while waiting for your flight. Maybe some people prefer to enjoy the in-flight entertainment, but it’s actually better to sleep through your flight so you would be less exhausted upon landing and you would be able to adjust to the different time zone quicker.
- Exercise
Prepare your body for a long haul flight with simple exercises before boarding so that you won’t be as sore when you finally arrive at your destination. Some airports now come with gyms where travellers can work out while waiting to board, so look for one of those. Besides, tiring your body before the boarding will help you fall asleep faster and better during your flight. Be careful not to overexert yourself though!
- Prepare your itinerary
Stuck before your holiday? Grab this chance to plan each day your vacation if you haven’t done so. Find out all the fun activities you can do there, interesting museums and galleries, where you can rent a car or figure out the maze-like train route map. While you’re at it, maybe you also can look for some nice restaurants and cafes.
- Plan your next vacation
It’s never too early to start planning for the next holiday! While you’re at the airport, take this chance to narrow down potential destinations and study them. No idea where to begin? Get inspired by the boarding information board and find some travel catalogues and magazines from the information counter or at the lounge.
