City Hall is working with various partners to stimulate tourism and attract more visitors to the city.
Mayor Datuk Mhd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz said hotels and tourist attractions in KL saw a 30% drop in number of visitors from January to June.
“According to the Tourism and Culture Ministry, there was an 8.6% drop in visitors to the country in the year’s first quarter.
“Even though the ringgit has dropped, there seems to be a decline in tourist arrivals,” he said after launching the “KL Dekat Je”(KDJ) local tourism initiative at Sunway Putra Mall today.
KDJ offers tour packages, starting at RM180, which include a two-night, three-days’ stay in a hotel, MUD show ticket, KL Hop On Hop Off tickets, KL City Gallery, Sunway Putra Mall voucher and guided tours.
Amin said 15,000 KDJ packages would be available until December 31.
“There are 14 three- to five-star hotels taking part in KDJ with a daily allocation of 100 rooms. There is also the opportunity for more hotels to participate in the KDJ programme,” he said
Amin hopes that the package will encourage more people to visit KL.
“City Hall’s tourism unit is working to to stimulate the tourism industry and attract more visitors.
“The main objective is to portray Kuala Lumpur as a must visit destination for Malaysians. This includes identifying new target markets and introducing new products,” he said.
Amin also wants Malaysia Airlines, KTM and bus companies to help promote KDJ.
