Originally known as Nokor Thom which literally means “Great City”, Angkor Thom is an inner royal city established in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII, and was the last and longest enduring capital city of the Khmer empire.

Angkor Thom covers an area of 9 km² and is surrounded by 8 meters high and 12 kilometers long walls that are bordered by a moat. This interesting architectural layout has been interpreted as an expression of Mount Meru surrounded by the oceans and mountains. The city’s most important monuments stand in the center of this walled enclosure, including Bayon, the last temple to be built at Angkor, Baphuon, and the Terrace of the Elephants.

Enjoy Siem Reap with style by going up to the sky on a hot air balloon. Exploring Angkor Wat and the other temples on foot are phenomenal enough, but sailing over the historical site will be an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime experience. The magical hot air balloon rides are where the entire Siem Reap Province can be viewed from the best seat.

Compared to helicopter, a hot air balloon flight is slower and quieter, so travellers are able to take in the wondrous view of the Angkor complex better. Besides, being up above will allow shutterbugs to produce photos from the best angle.
