Korean culture is one of the rising interests when it comes to youth specially the teenagers. Visiting South Korea would be a dream for fans of K-Pop and also K-Drama because there will be a lot of places you could visit and experience. Here are some activities or places you could do and visit.
1. Visit Entertainment Companies
There are a few entertainment companies that accommodates tourist. One of them are SM Entertainment. K-Pop fans would definitely know SM Entertainment because of Super Junior, Girl’s Generation, Shinee, EXO, Red Velvet and so much more. If you are there, you might want to check out the SUM Market and Café where you can dine in and also get SM groups merchandise.
SMTown Coex Artium located at Samseong which has 6 floors ranging from museum, merchandise store, theatre and also VR photo opt which is a must for the SMTown fans.
Other than SM Entertainment, there’s also YG, JYP, YMC and so much more but unlike SM, other companies mostly do not have places open for the public yet.
2. Visit Broadcasting Companies
If you love shows like Running Man, Law of the Jungle, We Got Married and the music shows, you have to visit the broadcasting companies. Broadcasting companies like SBS, JTBC, MBC and CJ E&M are all located at the DMC short for Digital Media City.
The first company you will see after 5 minutes-walk from the subway station would be CJ E&M company that is very famous for tvN dramas, MNET’s Music Countdown (M Countdown) that is hosted by the K-Pop idols themselves. The M Countdown is open to public and held every Thursday so if you want to meet and see the K-Pop idols perform, you must arrive there early as it is first come first serve.
Other than music shows, you can also visit the entertainment experience park at MBC World. It is the very first broadcasting theme park. With their high technology system, you can experience singing and dancing with K-pop idols or you could also be the leading character of a Korean drama!
3. Visit Cafés or Restaurants Owned By Idols or Idols Family Members
YG Republique is a BBQ restaurant owned by YG and Aori Ramen another restaurant owned by Seungri which is one of the members of the YG group BigBang (note: both of this restaurant is non-halal)
There are a few cafés owned by the Super Junior members, like Haru&OneDay owned by Lee Dong Hae and Mouse Rabbit owned by Yesung
Also visit K212, boy group Wanna One’s favorite café owned by their agency
If you are lucky, you might bumped into the idol during your visit!
4. Visit Music Video or Drama Filming Locations
Quite a few filming locations you can visit when you are in South Korea like Wolmido Island made famous by the Descendant of the Sun Drama, E-World in Daegu is a filming site of Weighlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo. A few of the famous one includes Jumunjin Beach which is a filming site of Goblin, a famous tvN drama series and also Bangtan Boys (BTS) for their MV of the song “Spring Day”
Namsan Tower (N Seoul Tower) is a filming site location for a few dramas like Boys Over Flower
Nami Island is very famous for the drama Winter Sonata, and most people visit simply because of the drama itself. You can take picture with statue of the main cast Bae Yong Joon and Choi Ji-Woo or you can film a video and act as if you’re in the drama because why not?
5. Stroll along the K-Star Road
Find your favorite idol dolls or also known as the Gangnamdol (derived from the word Gangnam, Idol and Doll) along the street of Gangnam and take picture of it to be posted on your social media!
South Korea is definitely a country that the Hallyu fans desire to go and if you are lucky, you might meet your favorite idol when you visit these places!
