We’ve rounded up some of the best public libraries around Klang Valley. Instead of the malls, why not take your kids to one of these libraries this weekend?
- Playcentre Library, Petaling Jaya
Formed in 1988, Playcentre Library is a non-government and non-profit organisation. This library, which is set in a humble bungalow, aims to promote and assist the community in educational and literary development. Playcentre Library is manned by a group of volunteers and expatriates in KL, and currently stocks more than 26,000 fiction and non-fiction titles both in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
- Pustaka KL @ TTDI
The KL Library’s branch in TTDI is a bright open space perfect for families to spend time together. Located inside Pusat Komuniti TTDI, this place underwent a complete makeover recently to give it a more vibrant and youthful look. Besides activities like storytelling and games, this library is also complete with a computer room, a meeting room, and a TV room filled with really comfy-looking armchairs and beanbags.
- Damansara Heights Public Library
Even though it’s a tad smaller than most libraries out there, this double-storey library has plenty to offer to young readers. Patrons can find a wide range of Malay, English and Chinese books, as well as the latest comic books. The bright and colourful children’s section is separated by clear glass doors and walls, which enables parents to keep a close eye on their little ones.
- L45 Kurau Community Library, Bangsar
Located on Lorong Kurau, Bangsar, this is possibly the most chic library you’ll stumble upon in KL. This one-of-a-kind space named L45 is the brainchild of an anonymous man who bought the house and funded its construction. While most of the books here are donated, some are bought to provide a good mix of older and newer books. The library, which is mostly lit with natural light, can sit about 18 people comfortably at a time, but more people can sit on the benches all around the compound on a day with good weather.
