FANS of the famed sci-fi action movie series ‘Transformers’ should get ready to welcome the gigantic Optimus Prime and Bumblebee at the Esplanade in Penang this Friday.
Both the Autobots will be on guard there until Sept 17.
The outdoor display exhibition will be the first to be held in Southeast Asia.
The exhibition, brought by the Penang government in association with Penang Global Tourism and Penang Island City Council, will give visitors a chance to take photos free of charge with the 9m-high Optimus Prime or 6m-high Bumblebee.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said there would also be laser lights and sound effects shows every night of the exhibition.
“This is our gift to Penangites and visitors to Penang.
“It will be open to the public for free for two months,” he told a press conference at City Hall in Esplanade yesterday.
Lim said the Penang government would also be unveiling a Transformers-themed street art exhibition at the Esplanade on July 19.
It will feature street artworks of Transformers characters painted on a line of containers serving as the canvas by students of The One Academy Penang.
The Transformers-themed street art exhibition is made possible by the artistic talents and efforts of young art students from The One Academy Penang.
The academy is the creative partner of this first-ever Transformers street art exhibition in Asia.
The state government sponsored RM1.1mil for the event which Lim said was a special offer by Hasbro Inc which is an American multinational toy and board game company.
The Transformers street art show, to be held alongside the outdoor exhibition, will also be on display until Sept 17.
The exhibition will be open from 9am to midnight on weekends and public holidays. On weekdays, it is open from noon to midnight.
