An oil rig that no longer has any commercial value would usually be destined for the scrap heap, but not off the south-eastern coast of the Malaysian state of Sabah.
There stands a redundant rig that’s been given a rebirth as a hotel haven for scuba divers keen for a unique holiday exploring the expansive wrecks and reefs next to the tiny Mabul Island.
Proud of its origin as a base for oil and gas exploration, Sea ventures Dive Rig offers a direct route to stunning dive sites in the famed Coral Triangle.
The rig once served as accommodation element of oil rigs around various locations but was given a new lease on life when it was towed from a shipyard in Singapore to the south-eastern coast of the Malaysian state of Sabah.

This boutique homestay is definitely aesthetically pleasing. It even reminds me of the colourful beach huts in Brighton Beach, Melbourne. But to me, that is all to it.
If I am a tourist, the location here is not very ideal as it is no where nearby any famous attraction in Malacca.
No doubt it is 5 minutes away from Tesco Cheng but I don’t think you come to Malacca just to shop in Tesco right? Maybe you can jog to the stadium nearby but then again…
The village itself is just this small area and it is situated right by the main road.
It can be pretty noisy unless they have a very popular sound proofing system for their houses. So unless you have your own transportation to get around Malacca, this is not a very strategic place to put up the night in my humble opinion. But if your parents are residing nearby and you are back for the festivities, then it is a good idea to stay here in case you are from a big family and your parent’s house can’t fit all of you anymore.
